How to Choose a Harmonica

harp You have decided that you want to learn to play the harmonica or as they are also known as a harp. First thing to consider is where to buy you first harp.

Buying a used harmonica is not really a good idea, because this is a very intimate instruments and you don’t really want to start thinking after the purchase what kind of bacteria inhabited the mouth of its’ previous owner. If any guitar player can easily borrow his guitar to a friend, the harpist will never do so.

When you are first starting out your best bet is to start with a plastic comb harmonica. If you get a wood comb harp they have a tendency to swell up and are not as air tight as a plastic comb. Now that you know which harp to buy it is all up to you to find a store either from online or if you have a local music store in your town. The next step is rather obvious – you buy harmonica.

When you are looking for harp stores you want to find one that has a good variety of different harps so that you are not limited as to what you can buy. You want to get something that you are going to be comfortable with. There are a number of different accessories that you can also purchase for your harmonica. One such accessory is a harmonica holder, which is something that holds the harmonica in place around your neck so that if you are playing another instrument it will be within easy reach if you need to add the harmonica to the music you are playing.

Another accessory that you can buy is a book and/or CD that will teach you how to play the harmonica. And while you are not using the harmonica you may want to think about harmonica cases to hold your harp. There are a variety of cases with different shapes and sizes to choose from.

If you are a more serious type of harmonica player you can purchase a Hohner belt which can hold several harps for quick access while on stage. One major important accessory that everyone should get is a cleaning harp kit. You would not want to just play and never clean the harp. It would be filled with bacteria from your mouth as well as dust and dirt from the air.

Keeping all of this in mind will help you on your way to becoming a master harp player in no time. You just need to take the steps and have the initiative to learn the notes and play the music it will all come with time. However it all starts with choosing the right harmonica to fit your needs.

How to Сhoose a Banjo

banjo

A banjo is a rather unique string instrument. There are several types that you can buy, one such kind is a 5 string banjo, which will produce a slightly different sound then a regular banjo. The sound from a banjo is a twang sound, it is used primarily by country or blues musicians.

When you go to buy banjo be sure you know what sound you want and also be sure to get something that feels comfortable. You may decide you want a new banjo; these can be rather expensive but are worth it if you can learn to play and are a professional musician. However, if you are just a beginner banjo player, the best thing for you to do is to consider buying a used banjo just to get a feel for it and make sure it is what you really want.

When you buy a banjo and learn to play well you can get a great feeling of joy and accomplishment. This is a wonderful feeling to know that you have accomplished a task that can be rather difficult. Plying the banjo is far from being an easy task. It may require lots of banjo lessons and pain in fingers. But in the end it is worth it to hear the wonderful music that is accompanied by the banjo.

Someday you and your banjo could end up on the stage or even at a blues festival somewhere playing banjo along with other great musicians. Then you can look back to when you got your first banjo and realize what a great idea it was and that you are glad you made the decision to go ahead and get one.

Just remember that until you get to that fame and fortune you need to practice a lot and work your way up the chain. In order to do that, you don’t necessarily need an expensive banjo from a famous strings instruments manufacturer. Just start practicing with whatever banjo you can afford at this time. Also be sure to get extra strings for the banjo as they tend to break easily when you are first starting out. Do not forget other accessories such as a shoulder strap and finger picks to go along with the banjo. You may even want to think about purchasing a case to go along with it so that it will be well protected while not in use. A banjo is a great investment and should not be neglected and tossed in a closet somewhere until you are ready to use it.
